Post-crisis policy challenges in the world economy will be the focus of UNCTAD´s Trade and Development Report 2011. This public event on 5 September will address the question of what lessons have policymakers drawn from the crisis for reforming the international monetary and financial system and the design of macroeconomic policies.
This public exhibition, which runs until 26 August, explores the role of restorative justice in promoting the human rights and welfare of survivors of genocide in Rwanda. It examines how restorative justice can complement retributive justice, and advance a form of justice that directly impacts on victims of severe human rights violations in a positive, empowering manner that promotes their rehabilitation individually and collectively.
Throughout the 1990s a vast conflict was brewing. Journalist Jason Burke was a first-hand witness of many of the conflict's key moments. In this lecture on 13 September he will look to cut through the myth and debunks the screaming headlines to reveal the reality for those ordinary people whose lives have changed forever. Drawing together the complex and chaotic events of this vast conflict, he will explain this still ongoing war and outlines the course it is likely to take in the years to come.
